TELETHERAPY

What is teletherapy?

Teletherapy is online therapy conducted via a HIPPA-compliant video platform (I use Zoom).  Teletherapy clients access the therapist through their computer, tablet, or smartphone. The therapist uses the same techniques and activities they would use in a face-to-face therapy session.

Benefits of teletherapy?

People who are new to therapy may find it easier to participate in online therapy sessions. The fact that treatment takes place in an individual’s personal space may make you feel more comfortable and at ease.

One of the benefits of teletherapy is the versatility in scheduling. You can attend appointments without worrying about transportation, taking time off work, or arranging for childcare.  Teletherapy frees you to focus on yourself. You can get the support you need in a space where you feel safe and comfortable – your home, your car, your office.  Wherever you have privacy and can talk about what’s on your mind.

How does teletherapy work?

I use Zoom for teletherapy and will send you a unique, HIPAA compliant link before each session. You can login into the session using the Zoom app on your phone or tablet, or via the Zoom website using the browser on your computer. If you’re new to this, just ask for help on how to logon and I can assist you.

Sharing personal information with your therapist is an important part of the therapeutic process.  Feeling safe enough to be open and vulnerable must be respected. Telehealth video appointments are never recorded unless you give permission ahead of time. Your information is as private and safe as it would be if you were receiving in-person care.

What should I expect?

Your first step is requesting a free phone consultation.  The consultation usually lasts about 10-15 minutes.  I ask what’s bringing you to therapy and what symptoms you may be experiencing.  If you are comfortable, we can then schedule an appointment for an assessment.
